Sage 200 & HMRC VAT Service | Innov8

We are updating you with some information relating to a change to the HMRC Service which may impact your ability to submit VAT Returns from Sage 200. The change prevents a connection to the gateway for any sessions running on the following Windows Operating Systems:

  • Windows 7
  • Windows 8
  • Windows 8.1
  • Windows Server 2008 R2
  • Windows Server 2012
  • Windows Server 2012 R2

Sage has concluded that this affects version of Sage 200 from Spring 2018 up to and including 2021 R1.

If you are on a more recent Sage 200 Professional version, you are not impacted by these changes. However you still may experience some issues if using an unsupported operating system (see below).

Please Note: versions prior to 2021 R1 are no longer supported by Sage so you should look to upgrade and v2021 R1 is now in extended support until February 2024. This won't impact your use of Sage 200 but will prevent us from being able to escalate any support requests to Sage for these versions.

How can I tell if I'm impacted?

If you are using a version affected, which can be checked by following this Sage Knowledge-base article and the environment being used to submit VAT Returns is using one of the operating systems highlighted above. If you are on a more recent version of Sage 200 or your environment is more up to date than the above, you are not impacted.

What do I need to do?

You will either need to upgrade your environment or your version of Sage to continue seamlessly submitting to HMRC from Sage 200. Innov8 & Sage appreciates this may take some planning, in the meantime you can contact our support team who can request an external MTD Submission module be made available for you. This shouldn't be seen as a permanent solution and a communication will be raised with your Account Manager to discuss upgrading if this hasn't already been identified.

If you are not impacted by the above change due to being on a more recent version of Sage 200, you may still find you have issues submitting, as Sage will have highlighted the above versions based on their compatibility matrix. All of the above versions of operating system are not supported on Sage 200 releases 2023 R1 onwards. If you have environments running the above versions of Windows OS, we would recommend reviewing this and look to move onto a supported operating system when possible.

If you have any questions, please contact your Account Manager.
